In another few days I will be receiving few VHS tapes and I want them to be converted to DVD's.

Will I be able to use the computer's front RCA ports to capture the video using Windows Media Center in Vista Home Premium? Do I have to use any other application to capture the video from the VHS player?

My computer also have an S-Video-in port.

Which computer do you have?

What are the inputs on, a Creative Sound card extender on the front?

Do you have S-Video out from the tape player?

If the answer to either of the 2 above is 'yes', then you should be OK.

I recall Pinnacle making a USB PC connection to do what you want, the Dazzle Video Creator Plus. Note it only works on Vista if 32 bit though.

Once you get the video on the PC though there are MANY applications, some free even, that will create DVD's. Most of the applications will vary by the editing you can perform and enhancements you make to the original.

I do have a HP computer with an on board sound card.
There is no S-Video out on the VHS tape player. But it does have composite-out ports. So, I have brought a s-video to composite cable too.

Dazzle Video Creator Plus is good but it costs. I have heard that Windows Media Center can also be used to record the VHS tape but haven't tried it.
So, any in-put about this would be helpful.

For burning the files to CD, I suggest DVD Flick. That produces very good quality results. Here is a little Video Tutorial on how to handle it.
For the VHS capture part I have to refer to the others. I only do screen capture with WMCapture. But for that you have to get it on the screen first.

Once I get those VHS tapes, I will give them a spin and see how it goes.
