Like many Windows 8 users I created a system image on an external hard drive which can't be restored because basically Microsoft stuffed up.

I have tried every known "solution" without success.

Just wondering if anyone has had any success extracting files from a VHDX image with Winimage or 7Zip? Apparently those two applications have worked with the older VHD format.

Many thanks for your reply Warlock.

I did attempt the above options but found them somewhat confusing with my limited knowledge.

Also I wasn't quite sure what mounting and attaching the VHDX files would enable me to do.

Mostly I have been trying to restore the image with many different methods I have found in forums.

As such, a compromise would be some way of extracting my most valuable files from the image.

It's a shame that Microsoft can't offer a solution for its defective software.

Bumping this up. Main reason is I don't have W8 and OP is not asking for a way to backup, they want to use what they already have made.
