Hi,

I am using Windows XP SP2. I would like to use the Remote Desktop Connection service to connect to another computer running Windows XP SP2. Is there any way to use this feature such that the target machine does not get locked, i.e. I can connect from a remote computer on that machine and the person currently using that machine can also continue with his/her work. Any help would be much appreciated. Kindly revert for any more details.
Thanks.

capnemo2080,

I know this is not a direct short answer but the below is the start page on MS Technet that will get you to any topic one can think of concerning (MS Remote Desktop Connections and Management). You can Refine your search and topics at the Top of the Page. Notice the +half million results found.

May be one of the other members that use this a lot will jump in with a shorter answer.

Unfortunately, you cannot do this with Windows XP/Vista. Only Windows Server allows you to connect to it without it being locked and even then you have to pass a command line switch to the connection program to do it.
You would have to use another Remote program like VNC to do this with Windows XP.

@jd2066,

I thought that was the correct answer but did not won't someone to find an article buried deep inside of Technet concerning the question which contradicted what would have been the same answer you posted. (CYA)

Thanks a Bunch,

Cap,

Are you trying to let the user see what you are doing to teach them? If you are using this in a support role i would suggest something like crossloop. See today's HTG article. If this is for you to remot into your own pc then locking it is a good thing. However, if you don't want it locked you can try something like Ultra VNC.
