My compaq V3424TU notebook PC got screwed severly both ways with my OS crashing and my DVD writer in-built by HP not being detected.

I am searching whether I can install a fresh OS by using a Removable External USB DVD Drive before proceeding to repair my in-built one but with fail.

Guys please help me out here, you are my only hope. Please!!!! :(
