upgrading a graphic card

My desktop is about 5,6 years old. I was wondering if upgrading my graphic card might liven it up in any way? I do not know how to judge if my desktop with XP OS, would react to an upgrade. I am not into games..so the upgrade does not have to include that. My old system is Intel Pentium ( R ) 4 2.81 ghz 1 gb ram

The best upgrade would be to check with the Crucial.com System Scanner and see if you can upgrade your memory at all. That is always the most bang for the buck. It is doubtful if you would see any improvement by upgrading the video card if you are not doing anything that would require the additional features of such a card.

You'd probably find a fresh install of Windows XP would speed things up as much as anything else. Maybe pick up an SSD cheap somewhere if you're serious about speed.
