hey snugglez

had that happen my self on a WD Drive. drive is dead. only way i could get data off was have a software guy get it off and it wasnt cheap. i went to a LaCie 1TB network drive that pluged into the router. it can be set up as a large drive or 2 500GB raid drives that is how i done it so i could have some sleep filled nights.

Snugglez, it does sound pretty bad. Can you hear the drive spinning up and seeking when it is powered on? I think it's time to start checking whether the warranty you have covers data recovery. See Western Digital support for their warranty info.

If you bought the drive from a retailer, they might replace it but it is extremely unlikely that they will do data recovery unless they happen to be an authorized WD service provider as well.

i dont hear the drive making any noise cos its really silent but the light at the usb goes on to show that the drive is 'on' or that the is power to the drive and thats about it.. i did drop the guys i bought it from a mail 2 find out what can be done as western digital actually recommended i buy it from these guys.. so i'm just waiting to hear back from them.

i'm not so worried about the data i had on there, just some music and movies, the one thing that was on there was my entire picture collection which i will miss very much.. but its not really a train smash.. just as long i don't throw away the money i paid for the drive, then all will be good...

wish me luck guys...

thanx..

mine did the same thing. lights on nobody home deal. well if the data is not a problem they at least should replace the drive. i had mine several years before it died. had important dat on mine for my wifes magazine business. if things are important that you are putting on there i suggest an eithernet storage with raid 1 that way you have 2 copies.
