I want to order something to be sent to Greece. When handwriting the address I usually do it in the Greek alphabet. Where I am sending it ,they do not always understand the address when it is written in English only.
I want to fill in a form on the net. how would I find these symbols on my keyboard?
I have found Greek letters in the Symbols font of Publisher when I have been typing out an address label etc but I want to do this straight into the order form on the site.
Thanks

(Solved) - Typing Greek letters

Hi Feather,
In unicode fonts there are a lot more letters included than just the alphabet we work with. One of them is the Greek alphabet. Without a specific program to type such you can't find them on your keyboard just like that, but since this concerns just an addresslabel there is another way.
Just open Character Map (don't know if it has the same name in English, if not I'm sure LH will give us the proper name;D) and browse to the letters you need.
On the bottom left there is the shortcut key for the letter you need. You can select them and copy them to your file and if the other party has the same font they will be able to read them.
So it is important to choose a font that is installed in just about any system :)
Comic Sans MS works, Arial too, Times New Roman and Tahoma to name but a few.

And if you can't find the part where the greek letters are, use advanced view:

This should get you there, if not let me know and I'll have another look to see how we can get it fixed for you:)
Cheers,
Sarah.
Thanks again!
I have used the Character map method and it seems to have worked OK even though some of the symbols are more in ancient Greek!
I did try the other way of setting the keyboard but even though I had applied "Greek" it still wrote in English?
I didnt get the on screen keyboard.
1. The on-screen keyboard you find in All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access. It's best if you place a shortcut on the desktop for easy access.
2. Once you have defined a Greek keyboard as described above, you'll find the letters EN in the system tray (near the clock). If you click on that, Greek will show up as an option on which you have to click to enable it. Then pull up the on-screen keyboard and it will show as you can see in my above post.
Just thought I would add a PS on this. I completed my order for the books I wanted to send to my daughter and proceeded to checkout. I added the Greek address to the order form. During the processing, the address was changed to a mass of unreadable symbols and it threw my order out!! I may have to revert to plan B and get them sent to the UK and ask someone to post them out to Greece from there! ( I am in Spain)
Thanks anyway, I have learnt all about the Character map and the ease of access keyboard etc.My problem is as solved as it is going to be I think!
