I've Read the sticky on "UAC".......very informative...I'm running TrendMicro Internet Security 2008 and must always turn "OFF" the UAC before running a full system/PC scan. Somewhat of an annoyance; will this ever be addressed/worked out between Microsoft and TrendMicro?

Thanks.

As you can see by the above TrendMicro support document they suggest turning "OFF" the UAC

Have you tried right clicking on the Trend Micro Icon and clicking "Run As Administrator" first?

First, I am the Admin.

Second, when I "right click" on the Icon "Run As Administrator" is not there. Instead, I have the following:

Open Main Console (bold print)
Scan Now
Update Now
Disconnect from Network
Switch Personal Firewall Profile
Protection Against Viruses & Spyware
Exit

Ok. Your account has Administrator privileges but UAC makes all applications running under your account run with Standard User privileges unless you do "Run As Administrator".
That icon you right clicked was the Trend Micro taskbar icon which won't have that option unless Trend Micro programs it in.
The icon I was talking about was the Start Menu->All Programs->Trend Micro->Main Console or Desktop->Trend Micro (Or something close to those paths).
I should have been more specific about that before.

I tried both paths and clicked on "Run as Administrator"....Nope..won't scan unless my UAC is turned "OFF"..........I sent an email off to TrendMicro Support today outlining this ONGOING issue.....The link you provided is way over my head. I'm not a programer. Just a simple home user.... TM should get this taken care of SOMETIME......

Well that is odd. The "Run as Administrator" should have worked. That appears to be a problem with Trend Micro AntiVirus.
I know enough about UAC and programming to know this can be fixed. It may have to bring up a UAC Prompt first but it can be done.
Microsoft's web site has documentation on working with UAC. It's not that hard.
I don't understand how Trend Micro can't figure out how to get it working.
I'll try installing a trial of Trend Micro AntiVirus in a Virtual Machine (as I don't use it on my computer) and see if I can figure out a way to get it to work with UAC.

I did a re-boot of my system and again I tried to scan after "Run as Administrator"...Nope...won't allow it and tells me to contact "technical support"..I appreciate your help but, TrendMicro has to come to terms with this....

(Note: I am running 64 bit Vista. I had a hard time a year ago finding AV software that was compatible with Vista 64 bit. Overall, I don't mind TrendMicro.....Just odd they still have not figured out the UAC of Vista)

Ok. I just downloaded a trial version of Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 to a virtual machine, started a scan and it worked.
In Help & Support->Product Information, it shows:
Program version: 16.10.1079
Engine version: 8.550.1001
Pattern version: 5.181.50

What are the values on the page for you?

Ok. Glad to see it was fixed.
Though I don't think Trend Micro should have even shipped the first version before fixing that.
A program should be compatible with all the Windows features before it's shipped to customers as a complete finished product.
