In Windows, you can do the following:
- Connect it to a USB port using your 30 pin dock connector:

- It should show up in my computer as a "Apple iPad" or something similar. My iPod appeared like this in Windows 7:

- Open it and browse into "Local Storage" and then "DCIM". Inside DCIM there should be a few folders. Your pictures will be in one of those.
There is a guide here:

I have about 30 folders of photos in the photo app in my ipad, but when I connected my ipad to the computer and found DCIM only the folder called Camera Roll is listed. The other photos were all synced from my computer which have since been wiped when I took my computer to a computer place to remove a virus and they lost everything!
OK, I have this app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app.....52940?mt=8
It will allow me to select any album and share it over an http share to a pc, mac, iPhone, whatever.
Might be your ticket out. I use it when on the road to easily transfer photos from my iPhone to iPad.

OH !
SO that's the problem, you no longer have a computer that can sync the iPad without wiping all the stuff, right?
If that's the case, there's a utility by the name of "sharepod" and it allows you to recover photos (as well as a lot of stuff) from the iPad (or any other iOS device).

When you re-connect to iTunes and Synch, it will be a 2 way synch. It should, I believe at least, copy everything off the iPad to the PC. When you connect to the device, select the device and then Photo's. Make sure Synch Photo's from iPad is selected and ALL folders are too. This should cause a 2 way transfer. If you have not set this, select a folder to use. After synch, you should see the same folder names that you have on a the iPad on the PC. Want to delete the pictures, then remove them from the PC folder, and then when you start a synch after it has complete, the synch will be from the PC to the iPad and the pictures on the iPad will be gone (you should save any you want to another place on the PC before you delete them from the iPad specific folder.
