the product key of other laptop worked in my laptop!!!

actually i had the product key of someone laptop of vista business edition. and he was using windows xp after formating his hard drive from vista to xp. and one day i had installed vista business edition with that product key. when i activated with that key, the operating system was activated and i could also get the windows update!!!! when i validated in microsoft webpage the validation was successful. i have no idea if someoone's product key could be used. so if my windows is activated, ,means i am i registered to windows, isn't it? by reading above info, don any one can suggest if i have registered windows?

Was that an OEM product key or a genuine M$ product key?

sauravrk,

You have Activated the the operating system which is all that is required.

You do (not) have to register the operating system or do anything else.

thanks pal for the suggestion but the product key is i think is of OEM
