This is just a test of the regular text before.

This is the text that is in the quote and such.

And other stuff.

And more stuff.

Let's not go overboard with this "quoting". On some forums you cannot follow the threads any more - each one line answer is 2 pages long because of all the embedded quotes.

Thank you whs, I wanted to say something but wasn't sure. Nothing annoys me more than all the font changes. bbcode <bad> I don't even read threads where every post is started with the original post in the ugly "quoting". My two cents.

techgranny, I am glad that we are already a majority of two who do not like those "quoting frenzies".

I don't think that will happen here. The reason that happens on other forums is because the quotes are automatic. The quote support on this forum can only be used when you use the blockquote element manually.
I'm glad that will not have to come up with strange and new ways to make quotes appear on this forum :-)
There are sometimes when you need quotes to follow the thread at all.
Like many things, quotes are not evil on their own, it's how they are used by people using them.

I have to side with Oma and whs, on my thoughts about this.

Since I am sure that our majority of three cannot thwart "progress", maybe it could be capped to only one deep and not more than 3 or 4 lines in each posting. I can see that it can be useful in exceptional cases - e.g. where the post you want to refer to has already disappeared from the radar screen and is 2 pages back.

The feedback is helpful, and I agree that we don't want to do the horrible quoting and cluttered awfulness that many other forums do. But... when have we ever done things the way other forums do?

For instance, we have the ability to post pictures, but do we let people clutter every single post with horrible awfulness? We have the ability to post links, but do we allow spammers to drop links in every post? Do we allow blinking gaudy signatures? Technically people can do them if they wanted, but we wouldn't put up with it.

Just like we won't put up with abuse of the quote feature.

Just like we don't put up with abuse of any features.

If only Tom Smykowski had made some sort of mat...

Well said - was just testing my brand new easypeasy. Seems to work well. If I only knew how to set a higher resolution.
