I am a gamer playing in WoW. The Tab key is used for targeting the nearest enemy. For the last few weeks when I use the Tab key it responds by acting like the Windows key, minimizing everything to the desktop. Thus I get killed by my target because I was not able to see what was going on. I have now noticed that the same thing is happening when in other programs. My secondary problem is I wish to keep using the Tab key as it was intended. Thank you for your help.

Is it acting like the alt+tab keystroke?

Don't apologize! You're the one with the troubles. =) Alt+tab is used to switch between open programs. So if you have a folder open and notepad open, you can switch focus quickly by pressing alt+tab. If you press it while a game is running, it will minimize the game and show the desktop.

Been playing in the snow for the last week so I am just getting back! You were right about the Tab+Alt... I use the Alt key for a push to talk program I use and then while playing I do sometimes hit both of them at the same time. This maybe the problem, if this is the case is there away to continue to use the Alt key but disable the "Alt" function? I use the left Alt key for my push to Speak program. At this time I have no other programs where I use this key. Further I foresee none in the future. But it may be prudent to keep the right side Alt functioning as normal. Thank you for your help Taybay

I don't think Alt+tab is a function you can override. I would suggest just remapping the speak key to something else, maybe V or middle mouse button?

You can try the registry tweak at http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/783/
It may disable the Alt+Tab switch function.

Thanks folks. I will look into the http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/783/ for disabling and remap my hot key too. I am now aware of WHY things have been doing what they do and have a path to fixing my problem. Thank you for helping figure this out!!! Leslie

At least with Vista you can substitute alt+tab with win+tab (assuming you are running Aero).

I would still recommend that you don't override alt+tab. Who knows what's lurking in there. ;)
