Tab browsing Blank page

Hi Gang,
the old guy is going nuts wondering why when I click on the tab next to the open page that a blank page opens; then I have to click on the Google icon on the far left to get a search page up.

I went to Int. Op's. - Tabs - Settings - When a new page is opened; open: selected First hom page. OK - OK.

Then after a couple of minutes it reverts back to the problem situation.

Please advise.
