Well, you folks are my last hope. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I(we) can solve my problem without having to re-install Vista Home Premium. Here goes:

System restore has stopped working on my (fairly) new Compaq Presario SR5152nx computer with pre-installed Vista Home Premium. When I tried to use System Restore I got the following message:
"System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working."

Ok, so I went to Services and attempted to turn on System Restore, figuring "something" may have turned it off. When I attempted to turn it on I got the following message:

"Windows could not start the Volume Shadow Copy on local computer. For more information, review the System Event log."

I looked at the Event log and seen the following:

"The Volume Shadow Copy service terminated with service-specific error 2147549183 (0x8000fff)"

I contacted HP for support and was told to use System Recovery. However if I use System Restore, I'll lose everything on my computer, and re-installing everything is one heck of a chore that I really do not look forward to.

Just a little side note. The computer seems to be working very well, even though System Restore is not working at all.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Pauley.

You can try following this thread's advice:

Just make sure you backup that section of the registry before you delete the keys. (Using the export function)
