I have been using system mechanic for a few years and was wondering about all the new options that they have in there latest release, and do they really work like there file realignment and there drive optimizer I just do not know what to think. I have done my own research and it is inconclusive what do you guys think ???? I am using windows 8 consumer preview.

Hi needhelpnow ,
Welcome to HTG ,
As a general rule of thumb we here tend to stay away from those kinds of "Reg Tweakers/Optimizers".
I know you say you've used it in the past and you may feel comfortable with it, however, I have seen this program screw up a healthy system within the first use.
As GS quite rightly pointed out, stay away from these rather nasty programs (and that is being polite)
Win 8 is consumer preview and it is up the previewer to test and report. Otherwise a preview is quite useless?
Your initial research has come back with an inconclusive response and that should be enough to take a step backwards. These programs will cause more problems in the long run so steer very well clear.
Recommendations are here if you should need and the ones we use work in 8 CP.

I just wanted to thank the ppl who took the time to help me understand about system mechanic and like programs, I this was my first post on here so I was happy with the fast turn over time so a big thanks to those six ppl (even the post with the little guy going lol rolling on the ground 0_o)
needhelpnow, thanks for reporting back and also thank you for accepting the humour.
We were just ensuring you keep away from this type of app/program. They actually cause you more problems.

And a very good cleanup app; http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
MSE is a free A/v anyway.
The other apps are free also. For everyday use, they will keep you clean, you don't have to purchase the pro versions.

EDIT; btw, all the above work fine in win 8
