is auslogics system information the best freeware system information app?

Best is subjective. There are SIW and Belarc too, both around for a long time.

On Vista you also have MSINFO32 (type that into the Start/search field). That gives you a lot of the same information. But I also like Belarc - especially if you want to make a printout. It is very compact.
