Still trying to cut down on unwanted programs and I'm puzzled about these....

Should I uninstall the following- Adobe Air installed on 13/2/2009 ( where there should be a size its left blank)
Adobe Flash Player installed on 5/5/2008 again no size given
Adobe shockwave player11 5/5/2008 no size / left blank

I'm thinking that these programs have been started then cancelled before download has been completed ?
If I'm right them we must have Gremlins!

As for my list below there all to do with Microsoft

Microsoft.NET Framework downloaded 6/04/09
" visual C++2005ATL update K6973923 29/07/2009
" " " Redistributable 13/09/007
MSXML 4.0 SP2 ( KB27978) 13/09/2007
" " ( KB936181 12/11/2007
" " ( KB941833) 13/11/2007
" " ( KB954430) 12/11/2008

Now do I treat these like Java and when ever there is a new download I delete the rest or should I not meddle in something I really don't know much about?

Hope you will not be pulling your hair out!

Hi Grandma Sue,

On my PC flash player and shockwave player don't have a size either and they work ok.
You usually don't notice you have them, because they are used to play files on webpages.
I don't know about Adobe Air, but I take it it won't do any harm, so I'd leave it be ;)

The MS updates are also something I leave alone. Microsoft usually sorts that out by itself when you update.
Only when an update is giving you problems there might be use in deleting it, but normally you can leave them well alone.

Cheers,
Sarah.

Edit: here you find Adobe Air - apparently it is to keep 'your favorite web applications with you all the time' so I take it you once visited (or maybe still often do) a website that required this, so I'd leave it be.

Thanks Sarah.
I will leave well alone, lets hope after all this that my laptop runs a little faster.

If your computer is still slow, here is a handy app you can use to see what programs are running at startup.

Look in the Logon tab.

Grandma Sue, I would recommend that you uninstall Adobe AIR and Adobe Shockwave. AIR is a development kit and Shockwave is hardly ever used anymore. If you run across a site that needs Shockwave, it will tell you.

Also, if the Adobe Flash that was installed on 5/5/2008 has never been updated, it is probably very downlevel. You should uninstall that, as well, and only install the latest version if you encounter a website that requires it.

You should not mess with Microsoft install entries that have a "KB" number. KB = Knowledge Base and every Windows patch is assigned a KB number.

If you want more help with what to uninstall, give us a complete list of installed programs and startups. You can get this info with SIW.

Hello Scott
Thank you ( Big Smile)congratulations by the way!
I will check programes again, if I find I do need to give you a list ( which I probably will just to cover myself) how would I do this - is it just a simple copy & paste ?

Grandma Sue, first, thank you! Second, if you did want to post a list of items from SIW, you can left click in the right-hand pane, then Select All (Ctrl+A) and Copy (Ctrl+C). That puts the information in the clipboard and you can Paste (Ctrl+V) it where you wish, including here in a new post. The formatting won't always be neat, but it's good enough. There is a feature of SIW to produce reports, but it is not available in the freeware version.
