I use Vista Home Premium SP1. I have the 'Windows Defender' enabled. Is it okay to have
'SuperAntiSpyware' (free edition) also running at start-up?
Thank you for all of your help.

Yes, I have the same OS you do, and actually because of this site, I'm also running 'SUPERAntiSpyware'. There are other posters' here that will have much more info than I do, but I can recommend trying a search for that info in the upper right hand corner search box. Probably more info for you there.

We have a lot of positive testimony from own experience and that of several posters that SuperAntiSpyware does a good job as a scanner. I do, however, not recall that anybody was using it as security suite. It may be ok, but I would rely more on the big security suite development houses for that (but NOT AVG please).

@whs
What's so bad about AVG?

brad, I have seen nothing but problems with AVG (around here and on other forums). They seem to have a real problem at this moment. Their latest updates seem to be problematic - to say the least.

I've been using Superantispyware and it's very good. I'd also recommend Malwarebytes, also free and extremely lightweight and effective. I'm also impressed with Norton 2009. I've shunned Norton for a long time and I personally would never use any full blown security suite but the Anti-virus program is light weight and effective. For free, I've moved to Avira anti-virus, it's very effective and lightweight.

That is what I figured, whs. Luckily I am using Norton and Superantispyware and Avast. Is that overkill? lol

Norton and Avast should not be running together and SAS you should use for scanning. Run Norton IS 2009, get rid of Avast and scan when you need with SAS or Spybot (probably mainly for tracking cookies). I am amazed that you did not run into problems yet running them all together.

Well I only recently returned to Norton so that might be why.

I don't think there is any need to have this running at startup if you have the free version.

For anybody who is about to buy Norton IS 2009, I saw this ad from Newegg today where they feature it for under $20 (further down on the page on the right. And you need the promo code shown).

Sorry Spacegold, I had misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking for how long the $20 offering was good.
Yes, as Whiplash said, security suite license keys are usually good for 1 year - in rare cases (e.g. some from McAfee) for 15 months.
