Split desktop and fullscreen game with dual monitors?

I recently acquired a LaCie Electron 21/108 and plugged it in to my Dell Studio 5 running Windows 7. I thought it would be nice to be able to check e-mail and stuff on the built-in laptop screen while runnig a game simultaniously on the big separate screen. Is this possible? I tried to mess aound with the resolution settings in the Control Panel, think I tried everything, but nothing fitted my needs.
Would appreciate any help.

So you are dragging the game to the big screen and you notice that the keyboard functions only work on the laptop screen? Is this what your asking.

Well I suppose my real problem is how to drag a fullscreen program between screens i guess then :S
Is that possible, if not, can i do it some other way?
