Hello I was wanting to know does anybody know how to speed up my internet speed because it seems very slow at times and here is a recent test that I just done a few minutes ago Download Speed: 425 kbps (53.1 KB/sec transfer rate)Upload Speed: 97 kbps (12.1 KB/sec transfer rate). Also I was wanting to know are these numbers good or are they not very good at all.
Thanks,

They're better than mine.. I can watch youtube etc, so you shouldnt have any trouble. The broadband speed here in the uk is probably the worst in the world.

I assume you measured that with a line speed measuring tool. Those numbers are not really good. Speaking in Kbits a fast line will give you 5000 down and 500 up. But it depends, of course, what you bought from your ISP and some other factors (load on the net, server speed, etc.). If you bought one of those entry level packages (750Kbits down), then your numbers make sense. The numbers I quoted above are for a line with 6000kbits down. The best speed-up is to get more muscle from your ISP. You can also try Opera as browser. It is a little swifter than the IE.
PS: I downloaded something earlier and it was running at 650 KBytes/sec

It really depends on what type of service you signed up for, it could be good or it could be bad. I like to use speedtest.net for my speed testing and right now here at work I'm getting about 9900 kbps both directions. At home I usually see around 8500 kbps down (with a 10,000 kbps package). Time of day, day of the week, network congestion all will affect your speeds.

If you don't like Firefox, you are like me - then you will like Opera. Forget the registry in this context.

Well, that was fun. It seemed to work - somehow. Here is what I got:

DOWN: for ATL-3089, for NYC-3753, for LA-1886
UP: --------------- 520, ------------ 476, -------- 502

But those numbers may not mean the same as yours since I am pinging from Germany.

I have the same as you. Remember: WWW stands for World Wide Web. I can get anything you get - and then some. But the websites are in the native languages (e.g. English for HTG Forum). There are websites that can be translated which is useful if it is in some really strange language.

tmonkey, what kind of connection do you have? The numbers you posted are good for a dial-up modem, but bad for a broadband connection. The numbers I get at speakeasy are:

Download Speed: 5142 kbps (642.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 648 kbps (81 KB/sec transfer rate)

That connection is DSL at 6000k down / 768k up. All of these line tests seem to under report a little bit. I get actual throughput of 700 KB/s on this connection. You can also try http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest but they all seem to give similar results.

I just redone my test and look at the results I got so yeah is that good or is that bad for my wireless connection which my connection goes through the ethernet cable out to the tower on top of my house so yeah that is the new results I just got a few minutes ago so do you think that is a good number for my wireless connection. I also done it on the speakeasy test that I had above that I listed.

Download Speed: 989 kbps (123.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 114 kbps (14.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

tmonkey2394, Your nums maybe good or maybe bad. That depends on the package you are paying for. You never told us what your ISP contract says. It has to be related to that. In absolute terms, your nums are not hilarious, but you can probably live with them until the day you want to download 500MB's. The nums that elpaelpa posted are typical for the 1500kbps package that probably most people have in the US. In my country, such a package is not offered. It goes 2000, 6000, 16000 but in the US they offer even 750kbps.
