Smaller Icons on desktop

I've recently been reading the quick help guides on Windows Vista, and found a much needed tip: How to make icons smaller in explorer. Which is great, but can I possibly make the icons on the desktop smaller as well? I tried the same trick and it didn't seem to work.

Are you talking about the scroll wheel trick? You have to click on the desktop first, and then use ctrl+scroll to make them smaller.

You can also right-click on the background and choose Classic icons, which will make them small as well.

Personally, I completely disable the desktop icons, and just use them from a desktop toolbar on the start menu.

Yeah, I only keep the Recycle bin handy in the top left corner. But I think I'm going to remove that as well. Will look it up in the quick help links you got posted!
