I'm trying to install XP Pro on a notebook (OCZ DIY 15) that already has Vista installed on it.

I followed this awesome guide here; http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....tallation/

and for the most part it went smoothly, other than the fact that it didn't work and I just want someone to validate my step processes.

I downloaded the chipset drivers from here; http://www.ocztechnology.com/d.....driver_XP/

obviously i downloaded the one labeled chipset, unzipped the files and there are two major folders, one labeled ALL and one labeled VIsta.

I'm assuming the folder that was labeled ALL has both XP and Vista drivers inside. To tell you the truth, I don't know why there is a Vista folder in here because if you go to the link (http://www.ocztechnology.com/d.....driver_XP/), there should ONLY be XP dirvers in the list.

So in the guide it mentions; "Just be careful not to select a 64-bit driver if you are using 32-bit, or the wrong OS version. " So i need to figure out which files are XP only and Vista only. I compared both folders and deleted the drivers in the ALL folder that matched the drivers in the VISTA folder and just selected the rest of the files that were left.

Burned the CD fine

Booted from CD and still get the no hard drive found error message.

Thanks in advance for your help. I can't believe it's this hard to install XP.

Odds are if there is an All folder and a Vista folder under XP, and the the folders are the same size, all that means is that they did not need to change the drivers for XP and Vista with the only difference being (possibly) the install path. Just use the All folders and leave the files alone, lest you delete a file that is needed.

Thanks for your response. The ALL folder and Vista folder are not the same size. But I'll run it again using the ALL folder.

Dukefrukem,

Checked out your notebook on a search plus downloaded the Zipped Combined Intel Chipset file from the site.

Do some research for me please.

What Intel Chipset is in your particular model Laptop ??

Once you have that, then its just a matter of extracting the right TXT and Chipset file from the zip collection.

I can probably tell by looking at or into the files if I know your Chipset.

You are going to re-make and burn a new slipstream but that's simple.

Thanks for your response.

The chipset in this model is Intel® PM965 Chipset + ICH8M.

Will this take care of the SATA drivers in the chipset drivers?

For the PM965 and GM965 (you may want to double check your chipset, the PM is the desktop and GM is the mobile version) http://www.intel.com/support/c.....025753.htm
The ICH8M is also there and is the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

They only have one set of drivers for these chips.

Dukefrukem,
Yes.
Your (EXACT) model is included in the Zipped Combined Intel Chipset File I downloaded.
Also are on the the Intel Site for download.
Signature is valid.
Good Luck.

I'm not downloading the drivers from Intels site I'm downloading them from the link I provided in my first post. THe laptop I'm trying to install Win xp on is here. http://www.ocztechnology.com/p.....o_platform

It clearly says Intel® PM965 Chipset + ICH8M in the specs on the site.

Please confirm in this download link, http://www.ocztechnology.com/d.....driver_XP/ , in the chipset zip, that i need to select 965M.cat, 965M.inf and all the ich8 files (10 of them)....

This is from the Readme.txt in the Chipset.zip:

* 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
************************************************************
1. Please refer to the Release Notes to view the list of
chipsets that the software included with this distribution
package is designed to operate with.

2. One of the following operating systems must be
fully installed and running on the system
before installing this software:

Microsoft Windows* Server 2003
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition*
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition*
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft windows Vista

So it looks like you are good, when you run the setup it should walk you through and get you to install the proper drivers for XP.

I still don't know what I am going to be doing differently. I already tried running the slipstream by selecting all of the files in the ALL folder. Which drivers do i select now?

Dukefrukem,
EDIT: Easy Way Instead of Above.
http://downloadcenter.intel.co.....8;lang=eng

Download this file from Intel link above.

The file contains the files that you need to slipstreamed in just like if you had a floppy.

When you right click on the file, you can EXTRACT the files to a folder.

Once you have made your Sliptream and installed XP, then we will install the FULL chipset driver.
Post Back.

Dukefrukem,

OK. Good Luck.
This method should work for you.
The weak spot in the How-To is how to obtain the needed Drivers and what they are.
Will be waiting until about 9:30PM CST/USA

@Moderator,

Can we call this (Solved) ??

What I did is the missing link in the How-To the Geek wrote which stumps many.
