(19 posts)jack, the score number does not mean very much. The details are a little bit more telling, but it all depends on what you are running. If you run a lot of games, you do not want a low graphics score (but you know that anyhow by looking at your graphics card). But if you do not play games, you probably can care less.
Jack, check out The Geek's build article #4:

In the section "Using Burn-In and Testing Tools", after the Windows Experience Index he shows how to use some worthwhile tools, PCMark05 and 3DMark06. These benchmark tools are far more useful for gauging the capabilities of your system. The PCMark score is a more thorough test of CPU, memory, disk, and graphics performance. This will show how well your system is for everyday tasks such as browsing, e-mail, and office suites. 3DMark06 is a gamer's benchmark which tests the CPU and graphics adapter doing 3D rendering, pixel shading, physics calculation and other game-related tasks.
ya and i didn't get like a really high end one either so it's about what i expected it to be :) i'm very happy with it so far. and the minor problems aren't a big deal and are somewhat expected when learning a new os but i have you guys to help me out if i ever do get really stuck. :)
