My event viewer keeps showing the above errors every time I log on/off. It doesn't seem to cause any problems but surely something isn't right. I also sometimes get error 615.I only noticed these problems after installing service pack 3, but to be fair, I hadn't really looked in the event viewer much before. Please help. P.S. it's Windows XP Home edition

Welcome to The HTG Forums.
What type of connection do you use to get on-line - possibly a Dial-up ??
A 615 error is a Port Error which could cause 529 and 680 Networking errors.
A Modem can cause a 615 error if machine services and configuration is not set-up correctly.

I am on a broadband modem. It does hang occasionally but usually the removal of cookies seems to sort this out.
I ahve been getting these errors for a couple of weeks. I did disab;e one or two things in the Services part of the registry shortly before I noticed this, as someone told me to uncheck the things I didn't need at start-up as my pc was starting up slowly due to many applications opening up un-neccessarily. I only unchecked the items that I knew were o.k. to do so, (or so I thought). I had just installed service pack 3 a couple of days before that.
Just an hour or two ago, I switched Terminal Services on (re-enabling "switch users" and "xp theme") and had been getting constant errors DCOM 10005 in the System log, But instead I am now getting Warnings ;Dhcp and E100B. and the 529 and 680 errors in the security log are constant whereas they were just intermittent before. Help please! (tearingmyhairout)

tearingmyhairout,
E100B refers to the adapter Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100) which goes along with with the Port and dhcp errors.
The machine is not configured properly.
XP3 did not cause your issue, it just brought a problem to light.
Also if you have been turning Services off arbitrarily, that will cause problems.
Need make and model number of your machine.
Need make and model number of your modem.
Need items in msconfig file.
Need services configuration.
If you could post a picture or just a list of the above last two items, that would be fine.
Know this sounds like a lot, but only way I can see and compare.
Please Post Back.
Kindest Regards,
Rick P. ♥ :)

Hi Rick, thanks for helping me. I'm sorry, I don't know much about computers, I'm learning all the time, mostly by mistakes. The make and model no: Dell Dimensions 4600 series P4 with HT technology (is this enough info?).
Modem: SmartAX MT882.
Sorry not sure how to give you msconfig file.
I've print-screened the System Config. file. I hope it sends o.k.
Please tell me what to do about msconfig file.
Thanks . Pam.
Sorry, I don't know how to send this. I don't have a webpage. I really am a novice!!

tearingmyhairout,
I understand.
The print screen will not post unless you know how to post a picture.
I can give you a How-To but it might be faster just to write down the msconfig file items and post a list.
Think everything is related to a couple of services and your internet connection but not sure.

tearingmyhairout,

That's fine !!

I didn't suggest that but you figured it out.

Great !!!!

Let me look over the images and I will get back to you.

It's late at your location so if you want, go to rest and we can continue tomorrow ??

As I said, don't think this is a bad problem, just need to be able to see how your machine is configured.

tearingmyhairout,

You say you are running Windows "XP Home Edition" with SP3 now.
However, your services appear to be a (MIXTURE) of (UK or Other) - XP AND Vista.
Have ask one of the members who runs both XP and Vista to look at your issue as there are some (Microsoft Services) running which I'm not familiar with at all.
MS does make different operating system editions for different world regions so I guess this is one of those strange situations.
Moderator is aware of your issue so someone will post back to you.

Kindest Regards,
Rick P. ♥ :)

Rick, I don't understand where the Vista services could've come from other than with the sevice pack 3 download. I bought this pc with XP installed four and a half years ago. Would it be advisable for me to uninstall service pack 3, as I have read some forums where the members say don't install it from a Microsoft Live Update, which is what I did. They say it's best to got to the Microsoft site and install the XP Professional version. Also I uninstalled Windows Defender when I first had the problems, as every time I tried to run it, I got a message saying that a service which it relies on is missing (maybe that was when Terminal Services was switched off though?).

There was some confusion because this topic was posted in the Vista forums. I will move it now.
Can you try disabling Bullguard temporarily to see if that solves the issue?

I'm a little nervous of doing this as I don't really know what I am doing. Won't I have to re-enable windows Firewall and make alterations for this in the Services application to ba able to safely connect to the Internet? Is this really neccessary, I have been using Bullguard for over 2 years now with no problems. Did Raphoenix give you the Services Log I sent to him?

Disabling a firewall is often the first troubleshooting step we advise. If you're not comfortable doing so, no worries.

My question is, other than recently finding Event Viewer and the odd errors it generates, how is your computing experience affected?

I might find the courage to try that later, have to go out now. Everything else seems to be working fine, apart from my printer which hasn't been able to print colour for a couple of weeks now. Black is fine but no colour, nothing wrong with the nozzles or cartridges, have disconnected and re-connected all wires, uninstalled and re-installed the printer to no avail. Seems to me like it's a missing a command from the pc. Thanks for helping, hope you're still here later. Pam.

tearingmyhairout,

The HTG Moderator (Scott) has the pictures of the SERVICES running on your machine. As I mentioned, am not familiar with the (Bullguard Microsoft Service) and a few other non-standard services running on the machine. He has better equipment to handle your issue than I have. Keep watching your Topic as I'm sure he will come up with an answer. It may be later in the day so mark your topic under member favorites.

Here is a link that may be relevant (although not the exact same message code, but the same symptoms).

@whs,

This is a bit of a mixed up situation due to where OP posted in forum.
OP did not know how to to post pictures so she found my E-mail address and sent them to me.
I talked with Scott and sent the pictures to him because of the (strange) Microsoft Services running on her machine.
Scott (Mod) has better equipment than I do so am just watching the Topic for now.
