i wrote you in off topic under Comcast never heard back blow is what i posted:

@Scott,

Right now i have RoadRunner soon to be Google fiber. My question is this, if i did buy the modem/router combo from Time Warner wouldn't you still be limited on what you can do in the firmware due to restrictions that they send to the modem depending on what package you have? I know this will be a moot point for me hopefully in a month's time. can we say www.fiber.Google.com folks??? LOL LOL LOL

AFAIK, regardless of ownership, the bootfile is set by the ISP.
When I have changed speeds (or modems) they are provisioned
and I'm on my merry way.
