rundll32 has stopped working

i keep getting an error message that says windows host process (rundll32) has stopped working. i searched for a solution but all i could find was problems with nero and dvix. i have neither. can you please help me with this? thanks so much

i am using vista premium, it happens any time i use any form of windows media player, such as its dvd maker, or media center.

The problem is because of codecs that don't work right on your system. What you should do is install the vista codec pack, which should probably fix the problem right up.

i just got that downloaded and it did not work, my programs will still close and i still receive a message stating that "windows host process (rundll32) has stopped working

You should be able to use this little utility to see what codecs are installed on your system, and you can disable them:
