Sarah? Did you get Recase to work "out of the box" as it were?

Out of the box?
If you mean run their setup.exe - yes on my Win98 it worked directly and on multiple files.
On Vista it also worked directly, just not on multiple files.

And I did some editing, because I don't use recase to lowercase and recase to caps, so I deleted those entries;)

Cheers,
Sarah.

Maybe this would work?

LeCase

I haven't used that particular software, but I have used some of the others with no problems.

Nice, randomaccess, but it doesn't do what I'm looking for - sentence case.
I have tried several of these apps already, but so far Recase worked the best - and simplest - for me.

Bye,
Sarah

Ah, too bad.

Have you tried installing recase using Vista's compatibility mode?
You can choose to have install as if it was running on 98 or XP.

Just a heads up, sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Seems to be random.

Also, are you running it under elevated permission? If not, it might be worth a try to use it running as administrator.
One other thing, my security suite often messes with installations even running as admin - sometimes I turn it off when I install things.
The Windows Firewall has also caused installation problems for me.

Just a thought..............

Hi Randomaccess,

Thanks for the input, but that is just the thing. It dóes work. Installed fine. And it works like it used to also.
I can select let's say 10 jpg files and recase them. Or 20 doc files. etc.
But when I collect both together, the recase option just doesn't appear in my rightclick menu.
If I want to do a massive rename action I use Magic File Renamer - a very old version, but it works like a charm.
But this recase is just for quick cleanup, so I don't have to run a seperate app or something.

Thanks for the input!
Sarah.

@SarahJames: Do you want to get this to work or just figure out why it doesn't on Windows Vista? I ask as I can't tell from your replies if you actully want to get it to work or not.
Also, have you tried this on Windows XP and saw if it worked there?

@jd2066 - I'd like it to work the way it did on the Win98, but if it doesn't it's no big deal.
And yes, I'm mostly curious why it doesn't work completely on Vista, while it doés work. I mean - it installs right, it works allright. Just a little part of it doesn't work.

I haven't tried in on XP because I've never had XP. Went straight from Win98 SE to Vista:)

Also if I understand why it doesn't work, I may also understand why another app I have in the rightclick menu has a weird spell when used on Vista, which it didn't have on Win98.
That one is 'Properties Plus'.
When I rightclick and select Properties plus for one file it works allright:

When I select multiple files it works allright too, but when I select a folder the initial screen isn't properly shown, like there is something in front of it (which there isn't). Like this:

And when I click OK (fortunately that button is visible), it all works perfectly allright:

And like the other: I'd like to solve the riddle, it's not a big deal to solve the problem, because the app works. It's just my curiosity why it doesn't work and if solving the riddle solves the problem, that's just an added bonus :)

Ok, I understand. I've also had problems where I just wanted to figure out why it wasn't working and I didn't really need it to work.
As for the Recase program not doing was it used to, the program registers with Windows Explorer via the shell key which leaves it up to Windows Explorer on whether to run program on multible files of different types not Recase and it seems the Windows 98 Explorer allowed that while the Windows Vista Explorer does not. Why Microsoft decided for the Windows Vista Explorer to have a different behaviour is the real question and for that you would need to ask Microsoft.
For PropertiesPlus program, I'm not sure what is the problem but it is different then the above, I would guess something changed with Windows Vista that caused that problem.
