You always seem to have those "secret sources" for hardware info. Question I have is whether this mobo: Dell Inc. 0FM586 supports more than 2 Satas. Reason I ask is that if this HDD experiment I am currently doing on my HP system works out, I would also buy an SSD for my Dell in Germany (there they cost twice as much, so I'd buy it here). The Dell has 2 HDDs already, so the question would be whether I can put a 3d one in.
Sorry to bother you with such benign stuff, I but I could find nothing useful on the web.

whs, if that motherboard is part of a Dell system with a service tag you can just go to Dell Support -> Product Support -> Manuals and enter the service tag. Usually a manual is available that lists details like that.

whs, since your system has a Core 2 Quad processor, it must be one of the 530, 530a, or 530c all of which have 4 SATA ports. The 530b and 530d have only 2 SATA ports and do not support Core 2 Quad processors.

Unless you know of another way to confirm whether your system is a plain, a, b, c, or d 530, this is the best guess. I can't find info on a Dell 0FM586 motherboard either. It's probably made by someone else, an OEM, and re-branded by Dell.

Justin's method is a good one, too. The service tag should uniquely identify the system that you have.

Thanks guys. I found the manuals alright (although it was a struggle). But they contain nothing about the mobo. But since it is a 530 with Q6600, I assume ScottW's information (four 7-pin connectors) is sufficient. Next question, of course, is, whether there is a third power cable off the PSU.

whs,
Don't know the answer but OEM PSUs are normally minimal at best as you know.
Would plan on a PSU upgrade just like with your current project.
Can't ever have enough spare parts. :) :)
Others may differ in opinion.
Best Regards,
Rick P.

Ya, Unfortunately I cannot have a peak because the box is in Germany. All I have here is my Belarc summary.
