Brazilianboiii,

You are quite welcome.
(JD2066) is the point guy that at least got you to a restore screen so I'm sure he appreciates your thanks.
Please Post Back Monday with (ALL) the details so we know the outcome and what happened.
Kindest Regards,
Rick P. ♥ :)

Ok so, if you were reading this thread about 3-4 days ago when i made it, you would know that i basicly want to restore my computer back to the factory settings, and i have came to the point where my Pc was asking for a password..
well i called [ACER] and they told me that (that password, was made by me, when i first turned on my Pc){Which very unfotinaly, i don't rember the password}
How ever they did tell me that i could take my computer in for 150$ to have this password removed.
IF ANYONE KNOWS (OR KNOWS SOMEONETHAT KNOWS) HOW TO POSSABLEY DO THIS WITH AN ACER APIRE E380, PLEASE HELP!!

They are gangsters. $150 for a 5 minute job (for them) is unbelievable. But they are right in so far as you must have set a password during the installation. You can try this tool which works off a CD http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ - if this does not work, there are others.

@whs: That is for resetting a Windows user password. It won't fix a recovery password as it's in a different format.

@all:
I searched online and found a blog post at http://denerding.blogspot.com/.....words.html which says you can use a Linux boot disc to find the current password.
If that is correct then I agree with whs that is unbelivevable that Acer would charge $150 for it.

jd, thanks for clarifying that. I was not sure myself - that's why I said "if this does not work, there are others". I guess it's a trial and error business. But your link, I had not seen yet. Seems easy with this one. Probably easiest with Knoppix?
PS: I am going to bed now. Maybe you can lend our friend a hand during my night.

I'm not sure which would be easiest. Knoppix would probably work as would a Ubuntu disc.
Though I'm not sure if those would auto mount the partition or not due it having a different ID to make it hidden.
May need to manually mount the partition.

No response required or asked for.
Why on earth would anyone put up with OR hide HD partitions on their own personal machine ????
Call me naive !!

@raphoenix: The recovery partition should be hidden during normal computer use so the user can't mess with it.

@jd2066,
Well ME, The User, don't mess up my own valuable equipment (lol) (lol).
Acer's actions imply that all of their customers are uniformed and / or stupid which of course is not the case.

@raphoenix: Just imagine a newbee who wants to free space and sees this D: drive with a bunch of odd files. Deletes them and then cannot do a recovery.
Also if a recovery partition shows up as a drive letter then programs like Windows Backup may want to back up to it and if the user does so not knowing any better will not have a good backup in place.

@jd2066,

I understand where you are coming from but believe in the old adage of (RTFM) first.
Will concede that the way some folks, lose their manuals, restore disc, etc., etc., your argument has merit.
Hope all is going well.

Kindest Regards,
Rick P. ♥ :)

ok, im back.
From the last post i made till now i was restoreing my computer, and reinstalling all the programs i use, such as winrar, winamp, some torrents :D
The dum guy at ACER told me that i had no hope, and that i couldn't change the password to the eSecurity managment, in any sort of way.
Although, i simple took less then a minute to find out he was wrong, All Programs---Acer empowering tech---eSecurity AS SOON as i clicked on that icon, it give me a little form: "NEW PASSWORD---COMFIRM NEW PASSWORD---HINT..
so it gose to show you! NEVER CALL ACER FOR HELP
i got to say that jd2066 did a great help to me, by providing the links that took me to the restore screen.
wow for my first thread on this site, it was a success!
THNX FOR All the help, great site
also.. i found one more little problem :D
while i was setting up my Pc again after resoting it, by mistake i put my time zone as pacific...when i should have put it was eastern...ill post a new thread on this.
