I have just did a clean install of Windows 8. I did a system image back up onto my external hard drive with all of my files and programs from Windows 7. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to restore this? I have some programs that were purchased that I cannot install again unless I pay for them again and I do not want to do that. I want to restore them onto Windows 8. Can someone please explain to me how to do this?

Restoring backup from Windows 7 to Windows 8
(2 posts)I'm fairly certain you won't be able to because the image will only restore files to a Win7 installation. The idea of an image is to replace the whole thing in one go, not pick out files to recover, though some software does allow you to do this. But if you try to restore to a different OS (Win 8) it won't work primarily because things are in different places , you need to reinstall each piece of software from scratch.
