Dear Geek,

One of my few peeves about dual booting is XP deletes my Vista restore points.

Now, I understand why, and even read this primer:

There are many, many dual booters that would benefit by a How-to-Geek article on this.

Any chance?

Dual booting is a subject that I really haven't touched, since I don't personally do it... dual desktops beats dual boot every time =)

But it's definitely a worthy topic, since everybody seems to be doing it. I'll add it to the list of topics to pursue soon.

The question I get most frequently is: "I got a new computer with Vista, how do I dual-boot with XP?"

I learned the golden rule of dual booting; oldest OS gets installed first.

Luckily, I was running XP and wanted to give Vista a driveby. I'm actually quite impressed with Vista but want to retain XP for the time being.

I've had good luck with Vista so far... I think most of the problems come when people try and upgrade their old XP install or run really old software.

I've literally had a dozen people ask me about compatibility of their DOS applications... kinda funny =)
