Hi sjr. When you say "word etc", what other programs save files with that in the middle ?

I am not very good with XP, but is that the original user name you used when you installed XP ?

Then I think you will have to re-install XP with the name you want. You would have to save all your personal files first (to an external drive).

Unfortunately yes. Any programs that are not on the installation disk will need to be re-installed.

? Could he/she just create a new user then move all the files over from "steph/jay" to the new users docs, pics etc...

The path to the files would change from;

C:\Documents and Settings\Steph and Jay\My Documents\K315

to

C:\Documents and Settings\"new user name"\My Documents\K315

a clean install of windows seems a bit drastic just for this?

or am i wrong ?

I'm with madjack1987 -- those other suggestions are overkill. Reinstall Windows, modify the registry, or use the hidden Administrator account just to change some file paths? Too much!

If it were me, I would create a new account and copy the files over. Then there is no need to reinstall Office either.
