(Solved) - reinstall windows 7 after Windows 8 beta

Wow, Ok I unplugged the monitors, that didn't help. I poked around online some more and tried something that worked:
Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display > Change Display/Screen Resolution > (Advanced Settings) > Monitor tab > uncheck "hide models that this monitor cannot display". Update drivers, restart computer IT WORKS!

and the fan is quiet as a mouse again.
