Reccomended portable tools for USB stick

Hi Guys

I am a beginner to using portable apps and i am looking at putting a load of portable apps on a few of my old 1 gig USb sticks but am looking for suggestions on what apps to put on ther i have heard of portableapps.com etc but i have also heard of stuff like portable windows 7 etc. Just looking for suggestions on the best apps for PC repair etc.
