I have a Dell XPS 1530 laptop with 4 gb ram. Can ReadyBoost help when I already have 4 gb ram installed?
When I put in my flash drive and select ReadyBoost a page comes up with a button already clicked Do Not Use. Should I click on the Use button or does the default Do Not Use mean I shouldn't use ReadyBoost with my flash drive (which has 32 gb ram)?

...another question. My Flash Drive is configured in the NTFS format. I've read it is very important to properly eject a NTFS drive using the "safely remove" route. Trouble is once ReadyBoost is functioning the flash drive always shows up as in use and thus cannot be safely removed. I've read the best thing to do is just pull it out without using the safely remove option but that may assume the flash drive is formatted as FAT32.
I know I can go back to the drive properties readyboost tab and choose do not use this drive but that is a pain in the neck.
Can I safely just pull out the flash drive even though it is formatted in NTFS?
Can I still store files on the drive in the remaining space available or will it be lost when I just pull out the drive without "safely removing"?

I guess you're running 64-bit Vista. Well, you do not need ReadyBoost to speed up your PC because you already have lots of RAM. ReadyBoost is only intended for computers with Vista as OS which have limited memory.

From this and researching ReadyBoost a bit on the web, I think ReadyBoost might be beneficial for use on my year-old Compaq Presario with 1Gb RAM, but I need a little help here.

1. As well as numerous USB ports, the machine has four stick ports in the front of the box:

Smartmedia/xD
MMC/SD
CompactFlash I/II
Memory Stick / PRO

Will all of these work? Sounds like USB may not be the port of choice.

2. How is readyboost accessed, if it not automatic?

Spacegold, if I'm correct you can also use memory cards as Readyboost.
If you have a USB stick that is Readyboost compatible, the only thing you must do is stick it in the computer, and through right click -> property's assign the amount of storage that may use Readyboost.

Figured I'd drop these links in here. They're bookmarks from when I first looked into it, but I never used it myself so don't remember much beyond the basics.

I am now suffering from ReadyBoost overload. But thanks for the links, Gueb. I gather that any of the above can be configured for Readyboost, but not all sticks are up to Readyboost rquirements. And not all stick manufacturers publish their random access speeds. It looks like the USB is the right way to go unless I can find a ReadyBost compatible stick. A 2Gb device should do it. I may get a bigger one and use the excess memory for backups, etc.
