About a week back, I changed the power management in my laptop (Samsung NP530U4B-S02IN) from Hibernate to Sleep when I close the lid.

Now, I find that I can't change back to Hibernate since that option is no longer available (even in the start/shut down menu).

OS W7 Home Premium - 8 GB DDR RAM.

Any tips?

Try running cmd.exe elevated (Right click and select run as administrator) and type: powercfg -h on. What happens?

It sez "the system firmware does not support hibernation'.

Solved. In the samsung easy settings - a very erratic nonsense software from samsung - I unticked Intel Rapid Start Technology (which I don't remember ever ticking) and hibernation was back on.

Generally the software updates from samsung are worthless since they don't seem to stick. I keep getting the same messages about the same software updates even after I have downloaded their bloatware (which takes eons to download) and have 'successfully' installed them.
