I installed the above that came from How to Geeks email and it came up with 8740 problems, 8622 of them were empty registry keys. Can anyone tell me if I should click the repair button, the site strongly recommends that.

The article is from How-To Geeks daily article. "99 of the best Windows freeware programs you may not know of", does that help?

I have never used it. But if you want to, then use this first to back up your registry. Do not install it on the system partition,

Also create a Windows Restore point.

I don't think I will use it, but I am wondering is it possible to have over 8,000 empty registry keys as the scan indicated?

How long is it since you installed the OS. And how many programs do you install, and then uninstall ?

It's an HP Pavilion purchased approx 5 months ago with Vista home premium, a few programs installed and uninstalled, not that many though. The OS came with the computer, I have not installed an OS myself.

Umm. Does seem a bit excessive then. Try CCleaner, and see how many that brings up,

tsmith777: please never download so called registry cleaners!! They actually cause more problems and you should NEVER pay for them either!! The one you have indicated has a VERY POOR history, includes malware, spyware and scareware. To keep your kit clean only use software used ans recommended by forum members. Go back as far as you can in Sys.restore. In Addition, Malwarebytes, update and do a full scan.
Keep your system clean with ccleaner

Also follow LH above!!
