Problem with HTG Server?
(26 posts)Got a very quick response from The Planet (the new hosting provider):
"We were recently experiencing an ongoing network drop due to router saturation. The issue has since been resolved and your server is currently online and accessible via ping and ssh. We apologize for the delays and the inconvenience that this matter has caused. Should you still be encountering issues with network connectivity simply update this ticket. If not it will be automatically closed in 7 days. Thanks for choosing The Planet!"
I'm going to setup some monitoring to catch the problem if it happens again.
The Planet is one of the largest hosting providers in the world, if not the largest overall. They should be able to handle pretty much anything.
Router saturation means there was a problem with a section of their network being overloaded with too much traffic.
If this becomes a recurring theme I'll move elsewhere, but I assume they'll fix the problems.
That sounds reassuring. But it used to work better in the "old days". Recently there seem to be more slowdowns - but maybe that is only my observation. When it drags, I always crosscheck with other websites to make sure it is not my system. My testsites are usually Photobucket, Neowin and Alternate (a German technology mail order oufit). I also check with IE, Firefox and Opera - sometimes even AOL.
