HP laserjet 1018. From one day to the next only blank pages pages come out when printing. What could it be? Thanks.

Thanks for your replies.

@Hermitt. If it was out of ink I would have realized by gradual lack of toner. The printer was working 100% fine.

@manveer27. What does it mean the cartridge being blanked?

Perhaps reinstalling the printer software may solve this. But uninstall the existing software first.

What is your operating system?

Have you tried printing "The Self-Test page" from the printer itself not from Windows, I think if you hold the GO button for a couple of seconds and let go it should print out a test page, at least that way you'll know if it's the printer or Windows that's causing the problem!!

I know it's the printer because I have tried using it on someone else's computer and it still did NOT work.

I am using windows 7.

Have you tried replacing the toner? Also try just shaking it a bit.

My laser scanner shutter pin IS snapped off! Does anyone know what this tiny plastic piece on the lid does and why it's causing blank pages?

The pin presses down a button when the lid closes. You can just use a safety pin to keep this button pressed. Thanks to everyone for their help
