please help.. text wont delete.. in a word doc..its just turnin red, :(

hi, im not very technical... prob a silly q. but its an emergency as my essays due in tnrw :s...
using office word 97-2003 doc ...and suddenly stopped deleting text.. it turns it red puts a line through it and i cant get it to budge. its also showing red on the print preview. any ideas ??
