Please please could anybody help me. i have an acer aspire one on linpus linux as its os. I want to change it to windows xp.Can anyone help me or give me a step by step procedure. im using an external cd rom and a windows xp bootable installer. What i did is . I set the cd rom as first boot and then the windows installer runs but the problem is on the part that the intaller will ask
what partition will it install windows? the partition that it shows is C: which is only 6000mb and E: with only 1000mb .How come it did not read the whole 8gb and the 4gb sd card on my acer aspire one. ? I could not select any of the partition choices it shows because its only 6000mb. Please please advice. do i need to reformat it? if yes . how? please thanks

Well, 6000mb is 6gb so that's not too far off 8

Decimal and binary drive data is different - basically, 8gb in binary is actually about 7.4 gb in decimal (everything is sold in decimal, which is why drives are never quite as big as they're 'supposed' to be)

However, 'loss' of 3gb on your SD confuses me!

I'm not sure reformatting your drives is necessary, but if you want to reformat, r-click on the drive and click format, probably best to format to NTFS rather than FAT, we had an article on it somewhere (could somebody add please)

sorry that was so bitty, I'm sure somebody else could expand and explain much better!

Let me research something.

Ahah, hadn't thought about that
I was saying how to format the SD on Windows! (It's just an SD card like you have in cameras yes?)

It appears from reading the wikipedia article on it, the Aspire One contains an SSD drive not an SD card. Which is something different.

@jd2066,
It can be done but it is a real bear for even old timers.
@jamessy2005,
The correct way to do what you are asking is:
(1) Zero the drive out.
(2) Partition the drive as (1) Active Primary Partition.
(3) Format the drive.
(4) Clean Install (Sliptream) XP3.
Utilities (FDISK or GPARTED Or Ghost PE Or 3rd Party S/W and imgburn plus Nlite)
Have (ALL) hardware Drivers on CD for installation.
Have a good knowledge of what you are doing.
That is the step by step.
Implementing the steps is a different long hard process that must be well planned out in advance or you will end up with an expensive new door stop.
You also may want to read this first.
