As an investment into the future, I ordered my Dell Inspiron with an Intel Q6600 and 4GB of RAM. After a little experience with it by now, I find it to be a real slowpoke. I compare it to my HP with AMD Duo 4800+ and 3 GB of RAM. The HP is a lot faster. Example. The Vista SP1 installation (without the download) took nearly twice as long on the Q6600 than on the 4800+. Also other normal day to day operations seem to be a lot slower. My prime suspect is the FSB which is twice as fast on the AMD than on the Intel. Cycle timing, memory and disk are about the same - so hard to find the difference there.
I saw that some of you have the Q6600. I would be interested to hear about your experience.

Performance of Intel Q6600 quad processor
(3 posts)I think part of the problem is likely that Dell is well known for including the worst possible motherboards/components in their budget computers, which is why they are always so cheap, but really underpowered compared to a better machine.
Since the SP1 installation is not processor intensive, it's much more likely that the problem is slower bus/hard drive in the dell.
