I have Windows XP SP3 installed in my system.
Intel Pentium D CPU (2.8 GHz),
2 GB DDR2 Ram.
From yesterday , My Computer is shutting down itself whenever i try to play 720p videos. But today, it happened even in NORMAL usage.
I checked the CPU Temperature and fan speeds from the BIOS Menu.
CPU Fan Speed ranging from :- 3515-3668 rpm
System Fan Speed ranging from :- 2280-2343 rpm
CPU temperature - 86°C/186°F

Could this high temperature be the reason why my PC is shutting down itself?

Very possible. Check the temp tolerance of your CPU in the spec sheet at the manufacturers site. You may want to do some cleanup inside the box (with a can of compressed air) and also renew the thermal paste of your CPU cooler.
