Hi anderson, the temps you wrote above seem to be fine with me, I´m presuming they are idle temperatures. Ofcourse you could get them even lower with a bigger fan/heatsink but there´s nothing to be worried about. There are certain programs out there such as Prime95 you could use to "stress" your CPU to find out how hot it gets under full load. If you decide to try Prime out then please post back with the results. Matt

EDIT: Prime95 64 bit

My pleasure, that´s what we´re here for, to answer your other question the CPU fan control should be set to max unless you have a monster fan doing the cooling!! Unless your fan is too loud, and the temps are low by default. Matt

from what i've found with the cpu fan setting in the bios is it will only work on a 4pin set up. newegg does have a switch here and here to easily control the fan speeds. i use these mostly for the annoying stock intel fans (those things are loud) but end up putting them on every one i've built, so far

guys m using windows 7 with core duo 1.9Ghz CPU and 1Gb RAM. I think my processor gets extra hot when it works. How may i check its tempeature? What is the ideal temperature for a x86 processor??

nikhil2761115, you can run Everest trial to check for your CPU temperatures. Matt

What is the normal temperature for a running processor, i.e., x86...??

There is no normal. Different procs run at different temps. Also depends on ventilation and cooling.

"What is the normal temperature for a running processor, i.e., x86...??"

To find the temperature range for a CPU, the source is on the CPU mfg'r website. Search for "limits", "thermal", or "temperature". The limits vary by specific model. See www.intel.com or www.amd.com

So. it depends on the precise brand and model of processor. See this and this.

See BobJams post above.
I have 1 that runs at 40°C, and another that runs at 70°C. They are both normal.

As LH and I said, it really depends on the precise model and ambient temp. 60C is 140F. Whether that's "normal" also depends on whether that temp is of the CPU under load or at idle. 60C might be a little high for idle, but unless you know your specific model's range (see my previous post), that's just a guess.

Even having something like ribbon cables placed badly will increase the temperature.

And if it's a laptop, the model and the chill mat model (if you use one) comes into the equation too. Laptops "normally" run hotter than desktops because of the small case and less air circulation.

"anderson's" specs look like a desktop, but you, nikhil2761115, may be talking about a laptop . . . I don't know.

(BTW, nikhil2761115, not saying this nastily or abrasively, but it would probably be better if you started your own thread instead of hijacking this one.

There's two reasons for this:

1. You won't know if any posters making responses on this thread are addressing your issue or anderson's, UNLESS they say who they're specifically responding to . . . which will confuse you both if they don't. While your issues are similar, there may be different approaches . . . which will further confuse you nikhil2761115.

2. You won't have to root through this thread for any responses specifically to you, because if you start your own, you will be the "default respondee" . . . and someone will likely make the same comments I have here if another poster puts their issue in your thread.

Again, please don't take this as an abrasive comment . . . just a friendly tip.)
