When I start MSE my PC freezes after a short period of time. Windows Defender is disabled.I am low on memory but I am not sure that this is the cause. Any help?

Hi ricmay ,

Welcome to HTG ,

Adjust CPU usage during scan in the settings tab (in MSE) to about 20%, the scan will take much longer but will release some processing power for 'other' things.

How much RAM do you currently have ?

Is this a 32bit or 64bit machine ?

I've upgraded to 3Gb and it is still doing it. Will try adjusting the CPU usage and then report back the result. It is a 32bit machine. many thanks.

Try clicking Start Orb > Type; cmd in Search > Right-click Command Prompt link > Run As Administrator > Type: chkdsk /r /f > Press Enter. It will run on next boot. See if that helps.
