Hi - On my pc tower there is a small light (near the lighted power button) that flickers and I believe this indicates that there is pc 'activity' going on. However, my computer tower is out-of-view and there are times when I question if my machine has halted (I am aware of those cpu/ram/network etc. activity graphs and meters and are way to big and fancy). So, I seek a small, teeny-weeny, lightweight desktop dynamic icon/app (10x10 pixel?) that emulates that activity light. Is there anything out there?

-thnx

For Network Activity, this tiny app sits in the tray:

Most propbably the 'hard disk activity' light.
Normal that it blinks since there's pretty much always some activity on the disk, either started by you (downloads, music playing etc) or by the windows (defragmentation, indexing etc).

--Edit: Re-read OP's question. Sorry - I don't know about such tools.

I wouldn't run without.

As for the flickering light on the case, it is what afuhnk posted.

The machine is doing a Scheduled Task such as defrag while the computer is idle.

If the light just blinks at a regular interval, that is OK also as some machines / devices poll.

If you disconnect CD player from the MB, the Light polling may stop but no need for that.

Ensure ALL Machine Device Drivers and Bios is up-to-date.

I believe the hdd activity light will blink if there is network activity, so, if I do not have a network connection ...

thus, the request for an hdd indicator.
