When I close the Outlook Express 6, I often get the prompt "to free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take a few minutes". How do I disable this annoying prompt ?

I don't want OE to compact my messages since it literally locks up my laptop for nearly 30 minutes. Also, I run disk defragment once a month.

Wow Sarah, If this thing cannot be beaten even by you, mebbe I should just give up. :)

This is for Vista (Sarah, Windows Mail) I will be back with the XP fix (amkeew, OE6) shortly (hopefully).
Back up your registry. I recomend this,
http://mz-registry-backup.en.softonic.com/

Then in a run box enter
regedit

Navigate to,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail
On the right pane, double click the Compact Check Count, and change the data value to 0

LOL - I'm viewing this in Windows 7 now ;)
Will try later when I have my Windows Mail back <grin>

I don't know how that prompt is triggered - either by no. of days or by no. of mails handled by OE. But it sure doesn't occur everyday or even every week. So, give it some time to see if that monster really went away.
