I have used Thunderbird till recently. And the mail rules within thunderbird did not apply to / did not work on 'sent' messages. Such messages had to be moved manually to the relevant folder.
It appears it is the same for Outlook. Although the detailed settings possible in Outlook does allow for setting up of 'sent' mail to be automatically moved to a specific folder.
Can anyone confirm that Rules work/don't work on 'sent' messages.
From what I've read on articles like the one at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/198854 it is possible for rules to apply to sent messages.
I'm wondering though, why do need to use rules on sent messages?
The way I organize my folders in Outlook:
Eg:
Shopping
-- BestBuy
---- Mp3 player
Therefore any communication like order confirmation, delayed shipping, shipping confirmation etc gets 'Ruled' into that. If there is communication from me to the other party (dispute of charges or rebates etc = 'sent' messages) - I would like that 'Ruled' into that folder.
This gives me a 'conversation' - chronological record of communication, in and out.
I will check that linked article and see where I might be making a possible mistake in setting up the Rules for my sent messages.
