Optiplex 320 problem: As a total amateur I am having problems with loosing the signal to my monitor after about 30 mins activity.
I believe the computer is still running but I cant see a thing as my monitor goes into the sleep mode.
It will start and display if I turn it off and give it a rest.
I have already stuffed up one hard drive as I learnt the hard way trying to reboot constantly.
Can any Guru out there help me. It's driving me nuts and I don't have a boat to use this thing as an anchor!

hi Toppy, welcome. It is possibly being caused by the Power Saving option in the BIOS.
Reboot your machine, and keep tapping (either F2, or Esc, or maybe Delete), until the BIOS screen comes up.
Look through the menu until you find Power Saving (or something very similar) and disable it.

LH, I think F8 is for Safe Mode. BIOS is usually F2 or ESC - I think.

I would tend to agree. But I just attempted to execute your suggestions and same thing happened. It is not consistent, sometimes runs for hours and happens, other times only minutes before I lose the screen. I must add that the speakers that are connected make a 'ffttt' noise as this happens which tends to suggest that maybe there is a 'spook' in my hardware somewhere???
