ok,i;ve look through past post concerning this problem but was unable to get what i was looking for so here i go,.i have a optiplex 280 gx,xp pro,80 gig hd 4 512k sticks in her,now the problem.first i kept getting amber light no vid just a high power processor fan,ok changed memory got green light but still no vid,ok changed mem again and now i'm but to the amber light,ready to chunk out the window but i told the kids i would give them something to play with,so that's my dillima,.please oh great one point me in the right area...tanks

Hi. Look closely at the capacitors on the motherboard, you are looking for any distortion or discharge from the end plate. These old Optiplexes had known issues with bad caps I'm afraid.

Yes it sounds like time to say good bye to an old friend. The kids will be much happier with an iPad anyway.

Turn the power off, or wear safety glasses when checking the capacitors. Even the small ones can go bang in a spectacular fashion. Would be easy to loose an eye.

yes checked 'em don't see any burned one but had other's that had that problem,but if you guy's are saying that then maybe it's time to give them something alittle better.but i know dem brat's and they wil hurt it soon...by the way i checked the diagnosis on the back of the optiplex and it gave me :fist light green,2ndthrough 4th amber or yello,checked the list and it said i have a bios malfuction and to run bois repair utilities program,.how can i run this program if i can't even get video?
